Full Queen Duvet Cover - Tips and Advice

The word “duvet”, pronounced du-VAY,  is actually French for bird down. It’s also another name for a comforter. A duvet cover is like a comforter case.

You can change them as often as you like and they are easily washable. You put one on by turning the duvet cover inside out and placing it on one end of your comforter, then turn it right side out around the comforter.

A full queen duvet cover has thread counts just like sheets, usually abbreviated as TC or tc. Thread count tells you how many threads are in each square inch of fabric. There are full queen duvet covers with threads counts from as low as 100 to over 1000. A quality duvet cover is at least a 300 thread count, but the higher the thread count, the softer the it will be.

Naturally you will find many types of fabrics and patterns for a full duvet cover. Keep in mind your personal taste as well as the color scheme of the room. Cotton is the most used fabric for duvet covers and has a variety of patterns and textures. It’s easily cared for, soft, and breathes well.

You could also choose a blend of cotton and polyester which is more durable, just as breathable, and are easy to maintain. Silk is very soft and usually washable. It generally has vibrant colors and gives a room elegance when used as a full queen duvet cover.

Faux suede is more affordable and easier to care for than real suede. It looks and feels like real suede and comes in hundreds of colors. Most velvet duvet covers are polyester blends and are washable. Velvet is heavier though, so probably better to use in the winter.

At the bottom of your full queen duvet cover you will find and open end with some sort of closure. Duvet covers can use buttons, snaps, ties, hook and loop strips or even zippers. Always look for quality zippers and strong snaps. Check buttons to see if they are tightly sewn and that the stitching is reinforced. Make sure any buttonholes are stitched very well so they do not fray. All these things are indications of quality and will help extend the use of your duvet cover.

Other things that help extend its use are proper maintenance and store. Some duvet covers should be dry cleaned while others are machine washable. Always check the manufacturers instructions and keep in mind of how much you want to put into the maintenance of your duvet cover, otherwise you may find yourself shopping for a new cover that is far less maintenance.

Storing duvet covers is usually as simple as storing sheets, so you can keep many on hand for a quick change. This makes it very easy to change them for the temperature or to fit a theme without having to invest in several expensive and hard to store comforters.

A full queen duvet cover is not an absolute necessity, and you could do well without one. However, duvet covers extend the life of your comforter and are far easier to clean and dry than thick comforters. They are a huge convenience and most useful for every home.
