Self defrosting is another great feature. Basically the defroster is set on a timer. So every 6 to8 hours system will kick of the cooling system and start up the heating coils. This in turn melts any ice build up. The water then drips down into a trough. The timer then kicks off the heating coils and then turns the cooling system back on.

Manual defrost is work. You will need to clean out the chest freezer every few months and manually remove the ice. You can accomplish this by leaving the lid open or using warm water to melt the ice. You can speed up the process by manually removing the chunks of ice.
